Marketing The Correct Way Using Search Engine Optimization

Categories: by Invitation

It doesn’t really matter what kind of website you have or what online business you run, you’ll always need targeted traffic. You need to get your site optimized for the search engines if this is your aim. When SEO is done correctly, you get that targeted traffic and they’ll also typically buy, too. However, if you are new to the whole SEO concept, then you might make mistakes that will harm your site on the long run.

Your main goal should be to get the search engines to approve of your site, not ban it completely. This is why it’s always important to keep in mind what you shouldn’t do, so that you don’t end up in a soup. In this article we’ll be discussing about various search engine mistakes that you should avoid if you want to get quality visitors hitting your site.

The most common blunder is neglecting on-site SEO. For something that people have complete control over; it’s shocking that so many neglect it. On-page SEO is nothing more than the way you decide to structure your site and its content. This is really simple, your main concerns are your ALT tags, heading tags, file names, titles, and navigational structure. All of these should have your targeted keywords mentioned in them.  For example, if I was targeting a website about home improvement advice, well then its a must to include that term in all the structures of my web site’s pages.  The search engines are big on creating the best experience for their users and on-site optimization helps with it tremendously. Your competition will be using these basic techniques so you should take it a step further.

Keyword research is an integral step in any type of search engine marketing. If you don’t research your keywords well enough and don’t have a strong keyword list, it spoils your optimization efforts. The traffic you get isn’t much targeted, which means it doesn’t convert and give results. If you base your web pages on phrases that people aren’t searching for then your site will never be found by anyone. With the right keywords you are off to a running start; with the wrong keywords you might as well start over because you won’t win the race. Keywords are the foundation of SEO so make sure that it is a solid one. There are a number of free keyword tools that you can use to generate relevant keywords for your site.

Ignoring or overlooking the guidelines offered by the search engines is a big mistake.

These need to be looked at heavily so that you don’t commit any SEO techniques that could get you a penalty with the search engines. The search engines are constantly altering their rues so it’s important to look them up as often as you can so that you never incur a penalty. For example, Google constantly changes its guidelines so you must abide by those changes or you aren’t going to rank very high.

Above all, make sure your don’t use too much flash on your site if you do include images, and use ALT tags when necessary. If you can avoid committing these blunders, you’ll shoot through the search engine ranks and you’ll avoid ever being banned.
