Categories: by Invitation

Like with other types of camp heaters, it is critical that you are aware on how to safely and properly use a propane camping heater. Although most models have additional safety features, it is of the essence that you still use them with caution. This is necessary to avoid the likeliness of unprecedented accidents.

Remember that safety begins upon the purchase of the propane heating device. Make sure to buy a propane camp heater that has a seal of approval that is recognized by a credible accrediting body or organization. The seal will serve as a proof that the device is indeed safe to use since it passed quality control and the industry’s standards.

Before you head out to your camping trip, it would be best if you acquire your propane heating device way ahead of time so you can carefully read its manual to know how to properly operate it. This is a critical step to ascertain that you are familiar with all the components of the unit. Pay careful attention to its safety features to guarantee that you will be able to use it as instructed by the manufacturer.

It is highly recommended that you check the propane camp heating unit before using it. Inspect if there is any gas leakage, or if the device is functioning properly. Gas leaks can be detected by smelling the unit to know if it gives off an unusual odor that is quite similar to the smell of rotten eggs. Another way to check for leaking propane gas is by applying soapy water on the gas connection. If bubbles appear around the line of connection, then it is indicative that there is a gas leak. It would be best to check the camp heater on an open area to prevent the unwanted buildup of the leaking gas.

Finally, the propane camping heater should be placed in a well-ventilated and unobstructed area. Do not position the heater too close to the side of the tent. Make sure to allot at least 6 to 12 inches side or wall allowance, as well as 1 to 4 feet ceiling distance.
