Before you embark into hiring a wedding videographer to capture every single moment in your exciting wedding video there are a few things you need to know. First, make sure that you get some sort of guarantee by signing a contract with the person who will do your wedding video. EVERYTHING should be very clearly outlined and easy to understand.
Wedding videos are great when you watch them and there has been a lot of effort put into making them look good; whether from the videographer’s end and/or yourself. You have to discuss important details like the format of the end result (and also the format in which the wedding will be taped/recorded). Is it going to be DVD? DVcam? Beta? You need to familiarize yourself with the terminology and ask your videographer which one will he/she use. Some people still have their weddings taped on V.H.S (I am not joking!) because they do not ask these questions before hand or they simply do not get a contract / written agreement. I can only imagine someone getting a v.h.s tape that literally throws down the drain the whole effort it took to put up this magnificent event. Bad quality video means bad quality wedding when time goes by and the wedding video is the best and most precious “memory of the big day” we have got left.
Once you have chosen one of the many wedding videographers make sure that you only pay 50% beforehand and the rest of the money when the video is handed to you. This is how it usually works, although I have also heard of certain wedding videographers that charge only a third to start off with. Whichever the case, don’t pay the full amount before you receive a copy in your hands.
Check for offers and promotions when it comes to your wedding video – or, any other wedding related issue for that matter – and be quick to grab these opportunities.
Don’t forget that sometimes cheap means expensive. Prices usually depend on the time of year and also the finished quality of the product. Wedding videography should not be a difficult issue to deal with when you get someone who does have quite a lot of experience and can offer you good quality in the end. He/she should be able to answer any questions you may have and inspire trust. Be-ware of certain issues, though. Your wedding videographer might decide to “also” charge you on top of the bill for what is called the “wedding video montage” and the “wedding video music” and so on. All these things should definitely be discussed BEFOREHAND and not come as a surprise in the end. Remember: they have the footage and you don’t!
Your wedding video should capture each and every moment of your wedding in a professional way; similarly to your wedding album but with moving images. Everything should be reflected in this piece of film: from the preparations to your Best Man Speeches, the wedding cake, the children running around, the funny moments, the colors and theme of the wedding decor, the wedding dress, the reception tables and wedding centerpieces, your favorite wedding favor, etc, etc.
You want ALL THIS and more. Every second counts. Once your wedding is over those moments will not be repeated ever again, and you want your wedding video to reflect all of this as much as possible.
